The New GMAT

Worried about the new GMAT? Look no further than BusinessWeek, which has started a three-part series on the newest version of the exam. The Next Generation GMAT will first be administered on June 5, and the biggest change is the addition of an Integrated Reasoning section.

In the works for about six years, this new section responds to concerns from business school faculty that certain crucial skills needed in the business world were not being addressed in the GMAT. Faculty members who were surveyed gave “high importance ratings to skills such as synthesizing data, evaluating data from different sources, and organizing and manipulating it to solve multiple, interrelated problems.”

These types of skills are now being tested in the new 30-minute Integrated Reasoning section, which will have 12 questions and incorporate graphs, data tables, diagrams, and pie charts.

For more in-depth information, check out BusinessWeek’s series. The New York Times also discusses the motivations behind the new GMAT section, including security concerns, and other business school trends, such as the rise in Chinese applicants. Plus, you can go straight to the source, the GMAC, for the latest news and info.
