I have a question about sentence correction. From my prep material I read that from the answer choices, “A” is a repeat of the underline sentence/phrase and thus we can eliminate immediately. However, after reviewing a practice exam (which I took on the GMAT prep software) I saw that the correct answer choice was A.

So, whats the deal. Should answer choice A be eliminated since its a repeat of the underlined part of the sentence or can it in fact be the correct answer choice?

Yes, A can be and is the answer choice in about 15% of SC’s.
Sometimes the question is correct as written…. we would not need an A if it were not an option.
