Growing Your Business at London Business School

For the past ten years, London Business School has been on the frontier of helping young executives spur business growth through Growing Your Business. A five-day course offered by Professor John Mullins, Growing Your Business is targeted toward members of the Young President’s Organization (YPO), an elite organization founded in 1950 in New York City. YPO draws together young chief executives globally who share the same qualities of being under the age of 45, heading a successful corporation as president, CEO or chairman, employing at least 15 people, and estimated at a net worth of $15 million or more.

In past years, Growing Your Business discovered that over half of YPO participants grew their businesses in excess of 10% despite the poor economic climate. Similarly, in 2011 and 2012, many participants saw a boost in business growth between 10% to 30%. This year, 2013, marked the tenth anniversary of Growing Your Business. The landmark was celebrated through a gala dinner at the Natural History Museum, bringing together entrepreneurial executives from around the world, including Asia, the United States, and the Middle East, to discuss business tactics, review each others’ business models, and familiarize one another with the year’s past industry changes.

Throughout the years, Growing Your Business has been an advantageous program for both sides: YPO members become fueled with new skills and ideas to help grow their businesses at an even greater rate while, conversely, London Business School becomes equipped with a new load of case studies and real-life examples to feed to students about the every day challenges of today’s entrepreneurs.

Since 2000, London Business School has provided students with the resources necessary to grow a startup business in today’s economy. The School offers full-time MBA and EMBA entrepreneurship courses and states on its website that it is “widely acknowledged as the leading business school in the world for entrepreneurship”.  The School additionally provides students with a solid foundation of support for growing businesses, including competitions, financial support opportunities, summer school programs, and an angel investor network. As one of the many opportunities for London Business School faculty to pass on key industry knowledge to MBA students, Growing Your Business is an incredibly unique event in that it brings together the youth of business leaders who are keenly aware of changing trends and rising challenges, and who are eager to share and take away knowledge.
