Which Viable Round 3 Deadlines Haven't Yet Passed?

From Dr. Shel (Shelly Watts) of MBA Admit.com, www.mbaadmit.com

MBA Admit.com: Proudly, one of the most affordable top-quality MBA admissions consulting companies, with prices nearly 50% lower than our direct competitor

It’s mid-March. At this time of the year, Round 2 candidates tend to hear from most of the business schools to which they submitted applications. You may be one of the candidates who, unfortunately, did not receive the positive news you hoped for. Each year around this time, candidates who have been rejected will write to us at MBA Admit.com asking which MBA programs still have deadlines this year and whether they have a chance for a favorable outcome in Round 3.

Candidates usually have specific reasons for preferring to entertain Round 3 rather than to wait until Round 1 of next year. A candidate might know that their job is going to come to an end soon, and it is better for them to begin business school in the fall than for them to search for a new job. Another candidate might fear that they are getting too old and that their age may be an insurmountable admissions obstacle if they wait another year. A candidate may feel they have plateaued in their career and the best use of their time is to enroll in school as soon as possible. Or, a candidate may face a visa situation in which it is best to get into a business school in a foreign country where they presently reside, rather than to return to their home country.

Whatever the reason, if you intend to put in a Round 3 application for a full-time MBA program, it is ideal to take stock of the remaining deadlines at top MBA programs and to assess how open they are to Round 3 applicants. Some schools are more receptive than others!

Some of the full-time MBA program deadlines that have not yet passed include:

• March 24: McCombs (University of Texas - Austin)
• March 26: Wharton
• April 01: Tuck (Dartmouth)
• April 01: McDonough (Georgetown)
• April 01: Stanford GSB
• April 01: Kellogg (Northwestern)
• April 01: Darden (UVA)
• April 06: Jones (Rice University)
• April 06: Harvard Business School
• April 07: Booth (Chicago)
• April 15: Kelley (Indiana)
• April 15: Columbia (Regular Decision)
• April 15: Marshall (USC)
• April 15: Anderson (UCLA)
• April 17: London Business School
• April 22: INSEAD
• April 23: Yale
• April 24: Said (Oxford) - Stage 5
• May 01: Judge (Cambridge) - Stage 5
• May 18: ESADE (R7)
• May 19: IESE (R4)
• May 29: Said (Oxford) - Stage 6
• June 17: INSEAD

What are the odds of admission to these programs in Round 3? For most schools, your odds of success will be lower than it would have been in Round 1 or Round 2. So, it is all the more important that you put together an outstanding application that can help you stand out, convey to the committee why you should be chosen and what experiences and characteristics you have that will enable you to be a valuable addition to the MBA class that they have formed so far.

Of the schools above whose Round 3 deadlines have not yet passed, Stanford, Harvard and Wharton tend to be the hardest to access in Round 3. But, at MBA Admit.com, we have had success even at those schools. Business schools like INSEAD admit candidates evenly for each of their rounds, so such schools are also an attractive option at this time of the year.

As you prepare Round 3 applications, be sure to pay attention to MBA admissions best practices. It is also advisable that you secure a Ding Analysis so that you are aware of what the key weaknesses were in your applications. You should correct any mistakes you were making and strengthen any weak credentials, if possible, so that you secure better outcomes in Round 3.
