Part 1: 17 Things You Should Never Say to an MBA Adcom

The MBA Exchange 0

This two-part blog looks at the delicate issue of making a good impression with adcoms.

Business school applicants should seek every possible chance to communicate 1-on-1 with MBA admissions professionals. This can happen during a campus visit or at an information session. Or even online or by phone. Most significant of all is the admissions interview.

These conversations can be stressful as applicants are always trying to put their best foot forward -- rather than in their mouth! Given the pressure of trying to make a good impression, there can be a slip or two along the way. Drawing from our work with candidates at The MBA Exchange, here's a list of topics that you definitely should avoid:

1. Is my GPA high enough?
2. Do I need to retake the GMAT?
3. Will I receive a scholarship here?
4. I'm applying to / waitlisted at schools A, B and C.
5. How does your school compare with schools A, B and C?
6. I was admitted / rejected by schools A, B and C.
7. Which classes would benefit me most?
8. How could I get a deferral if admitted?
9. I have / had issues with public speaking.

In a few days, we'll share the rest of of this all-important list!
