Hi bb,

I request for some assistance. I was considering an online (on demand video - no tutor required) course for gmat prep. I could narrow down to optimus, gmat-pill, magoosh and the economist gmat tutor.

Can you please assist in narrowing down to 1 of the above. Since I work in an investment bank, I rarely get time to study at home. I will need to utilize my travel and break time for preparing. Will be using an android tab for the same. Time-horizon is around 4-5 months. Aim is 750+.

My thoughts:

Magoosh: Somehow seems too cheap, but gives 2 CATs. Is this missing something that the others are offering?
GMAT-Pill: Only 1 CAT is an issue when compared with the other offers
Economist: Yes, very expensive. But is it offering something (features, content, etc.) much greater than the others?
Optimus: Seems the best in terms of pricing considering the number of questions and CATs, but very less reviews to read. Seems very few people have taken this course. Is this course missing some aspects apart from the GUI you mention?

Thanks & Regards,
Gaurav Bansal.

Getting a kudos always feels good :-)

Hi,

I'm looking for an online GMAT course for both Verbal and Quant - Is E-GMAT better or Crack Verbal? Have read a lot of reviews on both but struggling to decide! Also wanted to know if the video content of E-GMAT's (Verbal Online) course is downloadable?

AVOID Veritas Prep. I took an online course with Ravi Sreerama after reading alot of reviews on this forum. Little did I know that he would ask me to write a rave review about him after the course ended. He is extremely nice while he teaches but he will not go out of his way to help you. Suckers will end up writing great reviews about him and Veritas Prep when in reality, the video content is full of fluff, the practice exams are easier than the real exam, and Ravi will talk his brains out without providing anything substantial. I ended up having to take Manhattan Prep to really learn the GMAT and would highly recommend sticking with them. Veritas is filled with scam artists.

Ok. I am confused. You wrote a 5-star review in May of 2014.... why change of heart? why so late?

P.S. I have not taken a class with him but I have heard very positive feedback. I would suggest that you contact Veritas Prep customer support customersupport@veritasprep.com. Chances are they will resolve your issue and figure out a way to fix it.

Hello bb,

I'm little new to GMAT prep courses. I tried to study on my own for a month or so and haven't seen any improvement. I took a practice test from Princeton review and scored 530(Q41/V23). Since i need significant help and was undecided on which GMAT prep course to take i was looking for some guidance.

My choice is either complete GMAT pill course or complete e-GMAT course. Do you have any recommendation between those. Plus ill be using lot of guides and flashcards that you've provided in this website.

Thanks for any help possible.

As we were discussing about the study approach for GMAT viz a viz online course or books. I came across the Magoosh online course which as of now is only for $99 covering the entire gmat course however the same is much more expensive as offered by other test prep companies (anywhere between $800 to $1000). This will also be cheaper than the entire Manhattan study guide set in print which can cost around $250. Also GMATPREP is offering the online course for free. Now clearly magoosh and gmatprep online courses are the best deals out of all the other online programs. Since the Manhattan guides are well recommended all over what would you suggest would be the best approach to score high (750)?

Is appalled by all the marketing gimmicks of all the above coaching centers to dupe vulnerable students . Will give a frank opinion from a students perspective, who has taken both the services e-gmat and crackverbal .

E-gmat ...completely useless if u are looking to improve verbal . After u pay the fees u get access to some random videos uploaded, each explaining some basic concepts . The thing is these concepts are pretty basic and can be found online in Manhattan's Thursdays with Ron series (they are pretty amazing and honest do check them .) for free !! . They have very minimal questions to practice from.... a very big disadvantage , since without practice no point in cramming in concepts .
Although after going through their explanations given for various questions on gmatclub I was impressed by them but thats it ..... dnt expect much from their paid services .Pluss they dont have any tests of their own , then no way to test urself .

Crack verbal ..... Ohh boy !! where do i begin .... i have attended their classes ....complete trickery or rather sophistry is the right word i believe.
During the free intro classes they discuss very complex examples which make u believe that ur sooper dumb and then once when u enroll u realise that they dont have much to offer , probably the introductory class was the best class in the entire course . THeir claims of sending people to LBS, Stanford and others Ivys are of people who already had a stellar profile and just needed a touch up on their essays . Dont be fooled by the fancy website . their material is very basic and not much informative . No test series of their own again ! ...... the thing is they claim to teach u shortcuts fr RCs and CRs . The ugly truth is there are no shortcuts . U cant game the exam , no matter what they say . U have to improve ur English !! ...period . which takes time .

So what should one do !! ....... practice practice and practice by urself from as many books as u can.Buy Kaplan Manhattan and different books see the questions and learn from them . Because take it from me in writing there are no tricks or shortcuts for verbal . U have to read dense material and improve ur English and simultaneously practise. Watch Manhattans Thursdays with Rons they are a pot of gold ! when it comes to building concepts....

Do lsat verbal questions for more practice . Atleast RC and CR can be covered . Pluss LSAT has pretty decent questions . Read Opinion pages of nytimes , guardian et al . Daily practise quant fro 1-2 hr and verbal for 1 hr . Use the gmat prep tests very wisely . They are the closest u will get to giving the real gmat exam . Manhattan's 6 gmat test are also good but wayy tougher than the real exam . Do give them . Also search for solutions for each and every OG question in google . ROns explanation on their blog r pretty accurate .
The gmat exam also is evolving the old tricks which these coaching centers purport to teach no longer apply . Take it from a guy who gave gmat twice .

WHO AM i to give this advice?? --- a guy who gave GMAT twice -- 1st attempt - 700
2nd attempt - 720

Got in two Colleges with 50% fellowship . DOnt believe me go ahead waste 20k or more on these coaching guys . ALL the Best bro !! :)

I plan on registering for e-gmat live prep and study quant by myself using the Manhatten prep books. Are the Manhatten prep online classes much better than the books itself or they teach the same strategies with the same books? Please help. I plan on writing GMAT in 3 months and has a poor first CAT score.

No-one can be a better judge than you yourself, to decide which classes are better. If possible then take a free demo class so that you have no scope of regretting after you pay the fee.

These days most of the coaching companies provide one FREE demo class so that you can be sure of joining the right place so you may certainly get the benefit out of the free demo class.

About the study material, I would suggest that leave the choice of referring the study material to your coach because coach can judge best which all study material and in what sequence will suit you best.

I hope it helps!!!

Hi All,

When it comes to studying for the GMAT, there are a variety of different options. Given the busy nature of most of your lives, you might find that a fixed classroom schedule does not 'fit' with your schedule. As such, you really have to consider all of the possible ways that you could study. Most GMAT Companies offer some type of free materials (practice problems, Trial Accounts, videos, etc.) that you can use to 'test out' a product before you buy it. We have a variety of those resources at out website (www.empowergmat.com). I suggest that you take advantage of all of them, then choose the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget.

If you have any additional question, then feel free to contact me directly.

Hi All

I am located in India.I gave the GMAT twice.First Time I got 640 and second time I got even lower 610.
The two exams were spaced almost a year apart. My target is 700.

On both occasions my mode of preparations was self study although on second occasions I did
use an online program.I guess I am not very good at self paced study.I am planning to retake the GMAT.

Any suggestions/advice on how to prepare and what course to enroll into.I have three months time in hand.

Hi dipikmanipal,

You might want to read my post (the one directly above your post) as to how you might get started. As far as how you might improve your studies for this next attempt at the GMAT, it would help to know more about your last two attempts:

1) How long did you study before each of your GMATs?
2) What materials have you used?
3) What were the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores on each of your GMATs?

4) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
