Hello,
To answer your questions:
1. No. Regardless of your goals (conventional or unconventional), what will make them interesting to the adcoms is the details, such as why do you want to do this, what types of issues do you want to address and why, what special do you bring to this profession/role, how do you envision growing in it, what is your perspective of the industry, etc. I suggest reviewing my
online tutorial (free) on how develop a compelling goals essay – regardless of what that goal may be.
2. Yes – to make the story resonate, you need to include a little about why you want to do this (what motivates you), and what your vision for your career is (i.e., what would you like to accomplish). These points are covered in the tutorial I mentioned above. Of course, the weight various things are given will be dictated somewhat by the wording of the question.
3. No. The MBA is not a place to find yourself (at least according to adcoms). Moreover, summer internship recruiters are on campus as early as the fall – how will you know where to interview, and/or how to convincingly prepare, if you’re unsettled as to where you want to be?
