1 vs 2 yr mba programs

I am more inclined towards joining a 1 year FT MBA program. I dont want to switch careers neither want a summer internship.

my question is: is it a norm that people with 1 year applications tend to have a higher work ex?

I can certainly see that there would be a pattern in the work experience in individuals that attend a 1 year FT program vs a 2 year FT program. 1 year FT could have a commitment to a workplace following a year leave. Also they may feel that they have the knowledge necessary to jump right into the work force after just a single year in school. A 2 year full time has a certain appeal to students just coming out of undergrad as they would be comfortable with the surroundings of remaining in school for another 2 years. Then again many students just finish their program and realize they only want to spend one more year. So i'll answer your question and sum up my opinion in two quick points:

Students of those with little work experience would likely show no specific pattern from 1 vs 2 year programs.

Those with more work experience may tend to favor less years in school to remain/return to the work force as soon as possible.

So that means, the 1 yr FT program will have more applicants with a greater work ex (say avg >= 5) and hence adcoms will also be inclined in taking people who bring more experience to the table. Am I right in summarizing that?

Yes to the first part, No to the second part.

It means there will certainly be more applicants for the 1 yr FT program, adcoms will be inclined to take the most qualified people, someone with 10 years working experience and poor credentials elsewhere could easily be passed to bring in an individual that has 2 years work experience, a 3.8 GPA and a 700 GMAT. It's a game of numbers just like anything else. If you had a bunch of applicants from Germany applying to 1 year programs, then there would be more Germans in a 1 year program then there would be in 2 year programs. Adcom will always take who they feel best fits the school, but if the majority of the candidates have 5 years experience or more, obviously that program will have plenty of experienced individuals.

There is no fixed pattern.....Go to the websites of target schools and check the past profiles....It is there in most of the reputed schools....You have to research and mine the data...
