A is my Choice
Attempt + to is right idiom in this case..
A, E are contenders ..
But "that" is redundant in E and chioce E is wrody...
A is precize and correct

What's the official answer? Choice D is also a good one. An attempt at is an equally correct usage, and I would say even preferable in this case.

An attempt to ratify the equal rights amendment has been unsuccessful despite efforts by many important groups, inclusind the national organization for women.
I just took out the modifier after the comma.
attem to - is the correct idiom
A - is the best choice

I will go with E
Shouldn't it be "began" instead of "begun" in A?
I thought the usage of "begun" is gramatically incorrect in A
Correct me if I am wrong ...

I will go for (E), but for a different reason.
(A) is incorrect because it is a run on sentence problem.
to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, begun almost two decades ago It was an Atempt and not Equal Rights Amendment that begun two decaded ago!
This is made clear in (E).
Any comments?

E is incorrect; orthodox grammar books state that the present perfect tense may not be used with specific past tense markers.
that has begun almost two decades ago

A is indeed the best without the modifier. But "the modifier" in A makes the sentence similar to what I made up myself:
"antiglobalization campaign, taken place in Paris, has been unsuccessful.."
That's an unknown structure for me.
Anandnk, is this modifier gramatically correct?
The second question is whether GMAC employs such modifiers on the real test as correct ones?
P.S. My choice was E.

E IMO
I don't think 'that' is superflous in choice E, in fact it is necessary in this particular choice (choice E that is).
what's the OA?

Some more explanation will help me for sure!
Can some explain why (A) is right (Even though as I said earlier, (A) looks like a misplaced modifier, then still why it is right and why (E) is wrong).
