2005 Admission [#permalink] New post 21 Oct 2004, 08:49
Hi,

I was hoping I could get an opinion on my chances for Bschool admission. Im a white male from chicago and I graduated in May, 2003 from a top 5 engineering school. My GPA is a 3.3, but I have a Major GPA and GPA during my last 60 hrs of 3.6. Upon graduation I worked briefly in engineering consulting but had the opportunity to move into the finance industry (what i realized during my second half of college was my real passion, leading me to take several finanace and econ courses). I have worked for a top chicago proprietary trading firm for the past year. Also, during college I had 2 good internships and worked in research for a professor during the school year. I recently scored a 710 , Q48 V39, on the GMAT. I am eager to return to school to get my MBA in order to gain the business education I am lacking to truly move up in the finance world. I was hoping you could comment on my chances of gaining admission to my top choice, University of Chicago, with a profile like mine. I know schools like chicago are leaning back a little more to less stress on work experience, which I will have about 2.5 years worth by next fall. Thank you.

Hi,

Based on the information cited, you sound like a viable candidate. The great unknowns concern the difficult to observe traits such as maturity, life experience, and the ability to interact with older students.

You have a competitive profile for Chicago that would be enhanced and strengthened by community service. If you have it and just didn't mention it, great. If you don't have it, start volunteering.

Good luck!

Hi,

If you are serious about Chicago, you might want to check out the GSAL program.
