Program: MAcc Applied to: USC (1/11), UT (12/1) GMAT: 730 42V 48Q 5.0AWA GPA: 3.9 (B.S. Business from small state school) Work Exp: 1.5yrs as Budget Analyst
- I got into UT 1/21 with no scholarship. Was hoping for to get an in-state tuition waiver but anyone know what they were looking for? - Interviewed with USC 3/4 (I was a bit nervous on the interview but had a nice conversation with the Associate Dean and I did let it slip I got into UT). Got into USC 3/10 with $12k offer.
USC + Summer Intensive Program (Let me catch up in acct'ing & solidify GPA) + Higher GPA & Rank (Lotta non-acct/USC ppl, so don't have to fight with 200 UT's 5th years) + Costs a little less (Lower Tuition a/f Scholarship but Higher Cost of Living) + Closer to MBA schools I want to attend (Stanford, Berkley, UCLA, USC) UT + Ranked #1 forever vs USC #4. (#1 is #1. My undergrad's non-prestige hurt me in job searches) + More instruction & more in depth (3 Semester for ALL Students vs 2 Semesters for USC) + #1 CPA Pass Rate in Nation (Maybe something to do with instruction) + Ability to do a spring internship or summer study abroad (I don’t have acct exp).
Anyone else deciding between USC & UT?

Where do you want to work? That should be a factor in deciding.
If you're keen on a MBA in California, I assume you want to live/work there. With the scholarship & that reason, you're better off going to USC if you want to work in California.
More instruction? You'll probably learn more on the job than any additional classes taken.

I think it went well, the interviewer was really nice and friendly so it eased a lot of the pressure. Good luck! We'll be hearing in the next couple weeks

Anyone else deciding between USC & UT? I got into USC MBT and UT MPA as well. GMAT 640 GPA 3.78 Work Experience: Tax intern at a Fortune 500 company I had same deal, scholarship from USC vs not even a tuitition waiver from UT. I wound up choosing USC after speaking to people who worked for the AICPA (family friend is an SVP there) and they said both schools had such prestigous names and would both benefit me equally. The scholarship from USC definitely helped sway my decision (40% of tutition)

I've put this elsewhere, but so it's more available for future students.
Program: MAcc Applied and admitted to: Alabama, Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, Florida State, NC State GMAT: 570, 6.0 writing sample, GPA: 3.73
99.9% sure that I'm attending NC State.

Thought I'd post my final stats, too, for future reference:
Program: MAcc GMAT: 730 (45Q, 46V), 6.0 AWA GPA: 3.08 overall; 2.91 for B.A. in government Schools: Accepted at NC State, UNC-Greensboro, William & Mary, Wake Forest, UVA; offered some $$ at all schools except UVA
I'll be enrolling at NC State. As a non-traditional student already living in the Triangle area, it's the best fit for me. mountaineertider, hopefully I'll see you at State. Good luck to everyone!

To the people who got scholarships: have you tried negotiating your scholarship offers or just taking them?
I'm curious what the results of your negotiations, if any, have been. Thanks.

Thought I would post for future reference and to help with following years, as this forum had some good info for my own application process. Stats: GMAT - 710 (46Q, 42V I think?.... Can't remember for sure) GPA - 3.33 Cumulative, 3.83 Accounting Undergrad School - Top 25 overall, Top 5 Mid-size program (According to PAR) Decently strong extra curriculars, currently doing audit Internship, no other work exp (applying right out of undergrad) Schools Applied to - UVA, USC Applied right before Feb 1st deadline at UVA, accepted March 3rd with partial scholarship. Applied right after early deadline at USC, but called to let them know why. Got interview request mid Feb, didn't interview until mid March, was informed that I was accepted during the interview . Got official admission end of March, 40% scholarship, paid TA position. I will be going to USC, it was my top choice the whole time. I will most likely apply for their student ambassador program as well since the ambassador I met with helped me so much and I want to pay it forward as best I can Good luck everyone and congrats for those who have already made decisions!

I realized I was not a superb candidate by any means and I also strongly respected the schools I was applying to and had great and open interactions with the admissions staff I talked to. Didn't cross my mind to bargain or try to squeeze more money out of either school I applied to because I genuinely felt they were doing their best to get me what they could (and I ended up getting a fantastic package to both schools without mentioning the other)

I just got rejected from USC...ugh. A 710 & 3.45 from an Ivy League school couldn't get me in. I thought my essay and recs were good too. It may have been the interview...most of the time she seemed to be hung up on me not having any accounting experience (other than the required prereqs), which took me by surprise since I thought that's what summer session was for. She seemed to try to back me into a corner of someone who couldn't make up his mind & question my motives for accounting, and and I guess she wasn't satisfied with my answers. While I know that there are plenty of other variables...it was still kind of unnerving to me seeing that many people who had similar and lower stats get in so easily...and then get rejected. Oh well. Not that I'm mad at anyone who got in of course...Good luck & congrats to everyone who's going. Looks like it's between Fullerton and SJ State.

You applied kind of late, so that may be it. The earlier you apply to these programs the better your chances I think. I also applied to a school a long time ago and they still haven't gotten back to me. It was more of a backup school for me anyway though, so I guess it doesn't really matter that much.
