So I thought I'd see if there were others out there who'd like to stress about their admissions process together!

I'm applying to all Boston area schools: Boston College, Northeastern, Bentley. GPA is 3.94 (business major, non-accounting), but my GMAT is only 620. I'd love to get into Boston College, but I know it's a reach given the GMAT. Anybody have any sense of what my chances are?

Would love to hear more about what others are up to.

I have no real work experience, but I have kept busy with volunteer work (including an AmeriCorps term) and part-time jobs. I did a busy-season internship with a small CPA office my junior year. I am graduating in May from my undergrad. I have been accepted to Wake Forest's MSA program for Fall 2013 (25% scholarship), and I am waiting to hear back from UT Austin. I like both schools and I am not sure which program to choose if I am accepted to both. If Texas gives me any amount of scholarship money it will be tremendously cheaper to go there, but I would love to hear any suggestions on how to choose between the two!

Hands down, if you are accepted at UT, you should accept. However, given your GMAT score and work experience, that may prove to be a real challenge. If you can, I would highly recommend that you retake the GMAT. What are your career goals? Do you really want to stay in public accounting?

Wake Forest: Invited to Done in a Day

Is anyone familiar with Wake's Done in a Day event? Also, What are my chances of a scholarship to Wake?

Thanks

The Done in a Day event gives you the opportunity to interview, explore the campus, and receive a decision quickly. I would say that your profile is only slightly above average for Wake. I would only anticipate about a 25% scholarship if anything. Your background is probably better suited for Vanderbilt or UNC, but engineering is an interesting background in an accounting program. Still, you should have a compelling reason to pursue accounting. If you are considering pursuing an MBA later in your career, I would strongly recommend the UNC program. However, Wake does have the MSA/MBA option. You should ask about it if you are interested.

You should be good at UNC. I had similar stats (slightly higher GMAT, but same or slightly lower GPA) but went to a non-elite public school and did a less rigorous major and still got in. I can't comment on Wake forest sadly as I didn't apply, but I just thought I'd throw in a quick word about UNC. If you're considering any careers outside of accounting, UNC is a really good option and has a great network for other finance jobs you'd be able to tap into. After speaking with admissions in my interview, it was very apparent that the school is supportive of people who want to do something besides public accounting, which was important to me. I've heard that wake's curriculum is very to the CPA exam, while UNC was much more holistic and gives you the technical accounting courses while also allowing you to take other electives in finance. I hope I'm not sounding like I'm bad mouthing wake (not AT ALL my intent) because it's a very good school with a super high CPA pass rate and places well, but I just thought I'd throw that out there in case you're like me and looking at things outside of public accounting as well. UT, Michigan, and USC seem to do a good job of keeping this possibility open as well from what I've seen.

Hi all! I have a question that I desperately need answered. My application to UT finally says 'Your file has been forwarded to the Graduate
Committee for review.' How long after receiving that notice did you receive a final decision from Texas? I'm anxious to hear if I am accepted. I have 4 deadlines for deposits due on March 15th, (UVA, UGA, Wake Forest and North Carolina State University) and I need to know sooner rather than later about UT.

Thank you all so much. This is very much appreciated!

I cannot remember when mine changed to say this. I would definitely call Keri Ledezma, the admissions counselor for the traditional program, and explain the situation. The website says to let them know if you have deadlines approaching for other schools. They don't guarantee you'll have a response by that date, but it basically says they will try to get it through faster.

GMAT: 690
Work ex (accounting) : 5 years
International student (India)

UIUC - MSA - Denied
OSU - Fisher - MAcc - Interview done in Feb - Awaiting Decision
TAMU - Mays - MSA - Awaiting decision by this month
Indiana - Kelley - MSA - Applied within deadline - No interview yet

Can anybody throw some light on when these universities send out decisions (accepted or denied) for international students? Are application of international students assessed separately? The waiting is driving my crazy.
Thanks

Best of luck!

I have applied to UNC's MAC program, and I have already been through the interview. My third recommendation is still forthcoming, but it should be in by the end of the month.

GPA - 3.97 (PoliSci major and secondary-level social studies education with 12 credits in math)
GRE - 1440 (approx. 720 GMAT conversion)
Work - Presidential Campaign (2 months), Teaching (1.5 years).
EC - Pres. of College Dems. (no longer political - yuck!), Departmental Liaison to School of Social Sciences Advisory Council (lobbied to change summa cum laude from 3.95 to 3.90 and won!)

When i visited for the interview, i sat in on a class and had lunch with current students. I was impressed in every way, and i know i'd already like Chapel Hill (i interned on a campaign there one summer). The program's recruitment/placement record is fantastic and most people end up working in Raleigh or Charlotte which I would like to stay in NC if possible.

Good luck with the application/interview process y'all!

My Profile:
Applied: Texas A&M (Spring 2013), University of Texas at Austin (Summer 2013) and University of Illinois (Summer 2013). I'm meeting with the Director for Ohio State's MAcc program next week so we'll see what happens. I was already rejected from Vanderbilt for the Fall 2012.
GPA: 3.1 from UT-Austin. I have around a 3.6/3.7 Accounting GPA
GMAT: 660 42V 38Q, 6.0 Writing
Work: 2 1/2 years experience as a Project Manager for an Online Marketing Division
EC: YoungLife leader in college, played a club sport for a couple of years and then coached that club after I graduated

I would ultimately like to go to Texas but just want to get in at A&M. I applied last Thursday and should know by Halloween whether or not I got into A&M for the Spring session. I'll apply to Texas by November 1 and will know my decision sometime in January. Here's to hoping I can get in! I thought I wasted a perfectly good weekend missing my younger brother's high school graduation to go to Nashville to interview at Vanderbilt. They have a weird thing going on over there as far as how they accept students. I would not recommend applying there. Good luck to everyone!

Hello Texashect,

I happened to see your post in the thread and wanted to stay in touch with you. I have also applied to Texas A & M Spring 2013 for the Masters of Accounting program and hoping to get in. I would be very glad if you can keep me posted on your results. Looking at your profile, it seems like you have a great chance of getting admitted.

I am originally from India: Have overall GPA of 3.95. GMAT: 690. 2 years experience in Public accounting. I have completed all sections in the CPA exams conducted by AICPA. I am really looking forward to getting admitted at Mays Business school. What do you think are my chances?

I would appreciate any and all help.

Thanks,
Vidhya

Vidhya,

I'm planning to pursue the Tax track. I was an accounting major in undergrad, and I loved all my tax courses, so I think that's the best track for me to pursue in my graduate education.

Best regards,

Oh! that is great! I am actually inclined towards the audit track. But i am afraid that employment opportunities will be more in tax track! what do you think? Thanks for your inputs!

Just heard back from a few schools today.

UNC: Accepted
Wake Forest: Accepted with 50% scholarship
Baruch: Rejected
USC: Interviewed yesterday
Pace: Still Waiting
UT-Austin: Still waiting

Does anyone know if UNC notifies you of scholarship offers wit your acceptance or at a later date?
