Re: 3 identical machines can produce 2x in 4 days. How many such [#permalink]
Chairman Jo, here is my reasoning

Well if 3 machines can do 2x in 4 days, then
3 machines = 2x/4 = 12 = 2x = x= 6 per day.
Then how many machines can do 4x/3 ?
Plug in x = 6 (since machines are identical)
4(6)/3 = 24/3 = 8

3 machines can produce 2x in 4 days. Then 4 machines can produce 2x in 3 days. Therefore 8 machines can produce 4x in 3 days.

Ok here's another question:

If 10 hens lay 10 eggs in 10 days, how many eggs would 100 hens lay in 100 days?

Re: 3 identical machines can produce 2x in 4 days. How many such [#permalink]
Two ways to solve this:
1st.
10 hens, 10 days, 10 eggs
100 hens, 10 days, 100 eggs
100 hens, 100 days, 1000 eggs.

2nd.
10 hens 10 days 10 eggs
-> 1 hen 1 egg in 10 days
Thus 100 hens (100 times of the number) in 100 days (10 times of the time) yield 100x10 times of the egg (1 egg)
= 1000 eggs.

Re: 3 identical machines can produce 2x in 4 days. How many such [#permalink]
10 hens => 10 eggs => 10 days
100 hens => x eggs => 100 days

100 hendays => 10 eggs
10000 hendays => x eggs

x = 1000 eggs

or

10 hens lay 1 egg per day

100 hens lay 10 eggs per day

100 hens lay 1000 eggs in 100 days

I would take this question as

100hen-eggs in 10 days
So in 1 day it is 10hen-eggs

IIIly 10000hen-eggs in 1000days
