Re: 3 identical machines can produce 2x in 4 days. How many such [#permalink]
3 machines can produce 2x in 4 days
In 1 day they produce x/2
Then 1 machine can produce x/6 in 1 day
in 3 days, production = x/2
to produce 4x, 8 machines are required.

Re: 3 identical machines can produce 2x in 4 days. How many such [#permalink]
I Solve such questions using this technique: - (Initially I convert the questions for 1 machine or 1worker etc.)
If 1 machine works, It produces 2x in 4*3 = 12 days.

So for 2x it takes No. of days = 12
for 4x it takes No. of days = 24.

it finishes in 24 days, then machine required = 1
if it finishes in 3 days, then machine required = 24/3 = 8 machines.

Always works this way.

(3*4)/2x = (y*3)/4x where y is the no. of machines

=> y=8(ANS)

= 3 (4x/2x) (4/3)
= 8 machines

8 machines as well.

My way is to feel that there is proportionnal rule between the number of machines working together and the rate of production.

So,
3 machines 2x / 4 days
m machines 4x / 3 days

Thus, m = 3 * (4x/3) / (2x/4) = 8
