4 days to go.. need advice [#permalink] New post 14 Jun 2009, 18:00
i had posted the same message on another thread but on second thought, i thought it was pretty rude to ask for advice on other people's thread. so here's a new one :)

after 1 week of prep, i got 540 on GMAT prep, 1/3 of the quant questions (mostly careless DS mistakes) and 1/2 of the verbal questions (mostly CR and SC) wrong.. quite brutal. are GMAT preps accurate or more optimistic?

with only 4 more days to my actual GMAT, im not having high expectations here.. over 600 will do lol. on top of that, i have only written two AWA essays (the ones on my first GMAT prep).

needs serious advice here thanks!

Good call on that one.

You can see here: Try GMAT Score Estimator
(it is pretty close but a few other factors will decided whether you get 20 points above or 20 below

Best suggestion with 4 days to go - take full tests every day with AWA - don't skip it.
If you are short on tests and have nothing else, you can get PowerPrep in addition to GMATprep - that's the older version of the software. Otherwise, any CAT test will do.

Don't worry about AWA - you can read this guide (how-to-get-6-0-awa-my-guide-64327.html), but i think your main focus should be taking full length tests and reviewing your results and understanding WHY you made that particular mistake.

Also, if you are making so many careless mistakes - can you afford another 5 seconds per Quant question? If yes, you may want to do a quick check after you are ready to move on to the next question - I called it sanity check - caught 2 mistakes on my Real GMAT - freaked me out.

The last day before the test - don't kill yourself. Better to get rest than to study. Try not to stress.

Wow that's a good guide on AWA.. thanks!

By the time I finished all questions on quant, there is quite some time left, so I guess I'll spend a little more time on each question double-checking.

I attempted my second GMATPrep and got a 610, but the score is slightly inflated because some questions had been repeated.

I have 3 computers at home and if I reinstall GMATPrep on every computer, does that give me 6 tests in total? On top of that, I still have 3 GMAT paper tests.

As I'm doing internship now, I plan to allocate my time as follows. Depending answer for the abovementioned question, I may substitute the paper tests for GMATPrep tests:

Monday (Today)
- lunchtime: practise DS questions on OG
- after work: do a paper test and review
- sleep

Tues
- lunchtime: practise SC questions on OG
- after work: do a paper test and review
- sleep

Wed
- lunchtime: practise CR questions on OG
- after work: do a paper test and review
- sleep

Thurs (planning to take a full day leave if possible)
- Consolidate key points to note and strategies
- GMAT Prep 3 and review
- GMAT Prep 4 and review

D-DAY! (GMAT @ 1.15pm)
- Read through consolidated notes
- Have lunch
- To the battlefield!

Does it sound ok?

You can reinstall GMATPrep on the same PC - just wipe out the GMATPrep folder from C:\Program Files.
You will continue seeing repeat questions though, not many but some.

Do write AWA before each test, even if it is paper - take a 5-10 min break between sections and go back to the full length test. I am concerned though that you won't have time to review properly after spending 3.5 hours to take the test after work.... it's important to review

Don't eat too much before the test :) - have a light lunch - better bring something sugary (candy bar of choice) with you - you should be able to eat it during the break.
