4% of population of country L has military experience and supports a war against Country G. If 20% of those who support the war have no military experience what percentage of the country's population actually supports war against G?

* 5%
* 7.5%
* 10%
* 12.5%
* 15%

Folks pls help. I am lost with these kind of problems...consistently getting them wrong.

Are there any good threads out there providing generic approach to such problems...

probably best to do a tree diagram or a double matrix.

Four columns .... support and dont support, and military and non military

military and support = 4

non military and support = 0.2x, where x=total of all the supporters

therefore, 4+0.2x=x --> x=5

A. 5%.

Assume X is the total % is supporters.
0.2 X = X - 4
4= 0.8 X => X = 5%

Military supporters, who make up 80% of the total supporters, make up 4% of the total population. There are 1/4th the number of non-military supporters as there are military supporters. Military supporters make up 4% of the total. A quarter of this is 1%. 1 + 4 = 5.
