Work Experience:
1) Market Research and Strategy Consulting: 2 year 2 month (current)

Involved in business strategy development, including Market Opportunity Analysis, Competitive Intelligence, Business Research, Product Portfolio Analysis. I will most probably be promoted from Research Analyst to the role of Associate in November 2013. Have received award for good client service for an year long engagement with a 'big pharma' client

2) Patent Research: Nearly 1.5 years
Joined the company as the first employee. Work areas included Patentability assessment, Patent drafting, Prior art searches, Market opportunity study, Patent invalidity, etc. I was promoted from Associate to Senior Associate after 1 year of work exp. in this company

Education:
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, India. (Electronics and Communication Engineering) CGPA- 7.12/10, 2005–09

I have a decent extra-curricular profile. State Level Cricket Player for Under-15 and Under - 17. Have held different positions of responsibility during Engineering

Looking to gain entrepreneurial skills through MBA, connect with people from different places and industries, and work in the hospitality and tourism industry in the future

Please suggest the range of colleges that I should aim for. I am not very keen regarding the US colleges. Instead, looking for best options in Asia. However, I would not mind knowing about the prospects in the US. More interested in a 1 year program

Hi there,

Thanks for your post. Overall you have a solid profile, with an above-average GMAT score at all top programs, and work experience that differs from the typical Indian engineering graduate, with your background in market research, strategy consulting, and patent research. The switch to hospitality industry is a bit of a jump? So that might raise some questions, you'd want to address that head-on in your applications.

In terms of reputable programs in the Asian area, not sure what you've looked into.... ISB; Hong Kong UST; CEIBS; IIM Ahmedabad; Nanyang; NUS. Not sure if Australia would be in the running, Melborne or AGSM. In Europe, Oxford, Cambridge, IMD, IE, HEC. I would think with a strong application/essays you'd have at least a shot at most top schools, again IF you really show what about you stands out and what you'll do with the degree, and why/how it all makes sense. Good luck on the process!

Thank you mbaMissionJenK. I am in the process of writing my essays first (general essays) and in the meantime, shortlist the colleges. I plan to modify the general essays about myself later into college specific essays.
