Re: 450,000 is invested for a year. One part earned interest at [#permalink]
Alex, you are assuming that two 450Ks was invested in two places. Actually it is one amount solit into two invetments.

My soln:
Let first inv be x. To be simple I will use 450 and 50.

First Interest: ax/100
Second Interest: b(450-x)/100

ax/100 + b(450-x)/100 = 50
x(a-b) + 450b = 5000 ----(1)

I. a = (2/3)b
Sub this in (1) we get,
-ax + 1350a = 10000 ----(2)
Insuff

II. (ax)/(450b-bx) = 3/2
X = 1350b/2a+3b ----(3)
Insuff

Together,
We can substitute a = (2/3)b in (3) and get X in terms of a.
Substiute that back in (2) and we will get the value of a.

Thanks guys,

You are right! I assumed that both amount were 450000.
Not stupid of me, I just need more practise with questions like these.
Kaplan does not offer that much of these questions.

Alex
