490 BAD! [#permalink] New post 12 Jul 2007, 16:05
I am new to this forum and will start by saying I wish I had found this site months ago. It would have spared me from having to say I scored a 490 on the GMAT today. I really thought I was prepared and felt good going on. I knew that I was tired (I have a 5-month old daughter who decided that she didn't want to sleep last night), but thought I'd be okay.

Is it possible to get a decent score in a month? My scaled scores were 25 quantitative, 34 verbal. What recommendations do you guys have for me?

I'd appreciate any advice or input. I am thoroughly disheartened.

Quant is definitely easier to bring up than Verbal for most people so a month is enough time if you have the ability to set aside some study time. If you dont own it go out and get the official study guide and complete that first...then read recommendations for other materials on here and work your way through them.

Next time rent a hotel room the night before and let your significant other take care of your daughter. A good night sleep will do a lot for you during a long test.

I agree with riverripper. You can easily bring quant from 25 to 40+ by brushing up your fundamentals and with practice.
Getting quant from 42-48+ is another story which requires you to solve lot of questions of different varieties and also solving lot of such questions on this forum.
Good luck, prepare well forthe next month and you should be there.

trahul4,

I'm just curious of how you would recommend improving the quant score from a 25-40 range.

Euclid,

As i have mentioned the key here is to understand the basics and have good foundation of fundamentals. You should go through all the concepts tested on the GMAT. You may purchase all the quant books from Manhattan and go through each and every one of them . Also make sure you sre practising lot of questions. For practice, you may initially refer OG,PR and kaplan. Once you hit 40+, then you can go for club challenges.

You will require time for this and be prepared for hard work for at least a month or two on quant. If you have any specific questions on particular topic then post it here, you will get loads of explainations.

Again, i want to reiterate that, for quant, there is no substitue for loads of practice. Good luck.

Thanks.
