I took several minutes to solve this problem and all I could come up with an answer E. A question like this can really kill me on the real GMAT :(

in my opinion,
1- 4x>2y is insufficient, so it is b,c, or e
2- x/y<1, means y>x, this is only true if y is not negative, but still not sufficient

so i say E is the answer

Hey Edeal,

E is correct.

I totally understand..but i guess the only way is to write down the correct way that you used to get to the answer here....

If i take more than 1.5 minutes to crack a problem, the problem goes into my binder. Just reading your notes before exam day can calm your nerves a lot. you can practice , but important thing is whether you improve by working that hard..isnt it?

That only reason i post these questions is to undertand how the other guys do it...and more often than not, i pick up great tips from the other members..

How do you know that x and y are positive?

inequality changes depending on whether x and y are positive/negative
