My answer is A

For protection from the summer sun, the Mojave lived in open-sided, flat-topped dwellings known as shades, each a roof of poles and arrowweed supported by posts set in a rectangle.
(A) each a roof of poles and arrowweed
(B) each a roof of poles and arrowweed that are being
(C) with each being a roof of poles and arrowweed
(D) with roofs of poles and arrowweed to be
(E) with roofs of poles and arrowweed that are

Provided there are no typing mistakes in the answer choices, A is the only acceptable answer. Although it would have been better "each with a roof of poles..."

I will go with (E)

This is "Expression & Pronoun Reference Problem"
We can read the sentence like ....Mojave lived in ... shades with roofs of poles and arrowweed that are....

(D) : incorrect use of -to be-
(C) : being is used.
(A) & (B) : for not using with.

Correct me if I am worng..

Another vote for A.

It's concise and makes sense.

Will go with (A) here,
(was between A and E, but finally pick A)
A) is more concise and in the underlined part sentence is trying to explain the structure of the dwellings, while (C)(D)and(E) imply that dwellings had more than just roofs, so C,D,E are out.
(B) is awkward "that are being"!!!

A for me
It's concise and doesn't seem to have grammatical errors

E was a runnerup, but I think it's too wordy

A is my final answer. The comma after shades is the key I guess. 'with' needs continuity
