5 Questions - Mendoza vs Marriott [#permalink]
11 Jul 2006, 23:11
Dear Hjort
I’ve recently taken my GMAT. Now, I’m in process of choosing the right school. Deciding between Marriott and Mendoza. Hence, could you please provide me with the answers to the following questions:
1. Which program is better regarded by US recruiters? Their places in ranking greatly differ in different editorials. According to BW, Notre Dame is in top30, while FT ranking places it somewhere between 50-60.
2. Which one is better for career placements? My field of interest is Finance.
3. Where I have more chances:
Profile: Uzbek, male, asian, 22, GMAT 670(Q50, V31) –planning to retake and cross 700, WE - by the time of enrolment would be 2+years, youngest manager at local near monopoly, GPA 3.98.
4. Which school consider young applicant more favourably?
5. Please, note that I’m going to apply for partial scholarships. Incase If I receive 700+ on GMAT and considering all my profile, do I stand a chance to receive any fin.aid?
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Dilshod

Tough call
1. Notre Dame has a stronger overall reputation
2. BYU has outstanding placement success with a percentage placed at graduation substantially higher than that of Notre Dame. Neither would be my first choice among the NE or NEF cluster schools for finance although they are both quite strong in this field.
3. Not sure
4. Probably BYU
5. Not sure- BYU is one of the best values of any business school.
What do you think?

90% of the students there are members of the Church. May high placement statisctics be mostly attributed to the Church's helping its members in finding the job?

This is certainly something that I would want to check into further. You might want to pose this question to the school and see how they respond.

Dilshod,
I am a member of this church and live in Utah as well. I am certain that the church plays no role in helping students who graduate from Mariott land job opportunities (i.e. you will have no disadvantage in this regard). The school is very reputable, and some of its professors are the finest in the country. I am sure you will have the same opportunities that other students have to land the job you desire.
I hope this helps.

hi Chet719,
thanks for the message.
Have you ever considered applying to BYU?
If yes, I wonder could you give some additioanl feedback on Marriott/LDS mission.

I agree with Chet that BYU is a very reputable school. Since placement is such an important issue, it is reasonable for you to have questions about it.
