5^X - 5^X-3 = 124 5^Y

It is important to recognize 124 is 5^3 -1.

Once you realize that... you can reduce the L.H.S to

(5^3-1)* 5^-3 * 5^x = 5^3-1 * y

x-3 = y

Hahahahah.... I've been toiling day and night for 2 years at work now. Yet to get a promotion. 2 days, a handful of problems, and I am already a manager in this forum ;)

If only life can be this easy :(

5^x - 5^x(1/125) = 124(5^y)
5^x(1-1/125) = 124(5^y)

5^x(124/125) = 124(5^y)
5^x = 125(5^y)
x = y+3
y = x-3
