I had been studying for 2 straight months for about 25 hours/week for the GMAT. I signed up with Knewton, which seemed the most competitively priced, and completed all the lesssons including 5 practice GMAT tests. My original diagnostic was 580 with no prior studying. I feel like I had been getting a much better feeling for the test and began to feel more comfortable/confident each week. My practice tests for Knewton ranged from roughly 570-610. I also used GMATPrep software/Power Prep/ and Kaplan CD. I was averaging roughly 36-40 in Q and about the same for V 34-40. On test day, I absolutely choked on V- getting a 27! While doing the same in Q-35. I had made huge strides with SC- putting in a lot of time studying/practicing.

During the test, I was very nervous and ended up taking almost double the time allotted on certain questions from 1-10- I really emphasized taking more time to be sure I was getting these first 10 right. I ended up having to guess on the last 7 questions due to time- the same was true for the V section (guessed on last 4 problems)

I just don't understand my verbal results- at least my Q was somewhat in my expected range. I'm planning on retaking in a month- I would LOVE some feedback from anyone willing. Suggestions on a different study approach? Also, I'm considering taking the GRE as well- just to see how my score compares. All thoughts and suggestions welcome!

Sorry to hear and glad that you are planning to retry. I am sure with few stress and time management skills you should be able to knock it down.

Please go through some of the success stories where many went from ashes to flying colors and may inspire you.

The following post has good stress management tips.

Good luck and don't loose focus as it can destroy the hard work that you have already spent.

Pat,

Seems like you have already begun soul searching to get better GMAT score. That's already a home run.

Holidays are here; time to be with family. Take a complete break from GMAT spend time with family and your loved ones; get your confidence and aspirations back.

Once you think you are ready; get back on the drawing board; finish your most honest and critical analysis of the gaps in knowledge\skill\stamina\format\stress all that...!

Rank and stack top 3 (appears Verbal is your concern)... use GMATClub Forum strategy section and search for the approach which works best for you...! Lot of content is uplifting and have examples over examples on how folks came through with their odds...

Strategize and plan your own approach.

Stick to your plan and plan to regularly clock in time with GMATClub & GMATClubbers; this is one big international family with lot of jewels in it... always willing to jump in and help.

Finally keep in touch; dont think I am much different than you or anyone else in this forum

All the best
