All I can say it that this story serves as motivation to those of us that aren't 700+ scores out of the gate. I have this story bookmarked and will likely read it when I need a boost of motivation.

Excellent debrief thanks. Goes to show how a systematic and common sense approach to tackling the material can get you an excellent result. Completely agree with you about the error log and the diminishing return between studying non GMAC outlier questions and gaining excellent scores. Your personality/perceived abilities resonate well with me, i'm very glad I came accross this! Good luck in your apps.

Edit: Kudos!

good job mate! i definitely agree that error logs are not the most efficient way to track errors, at least not for me.
good job, keep us posted with your application process!

Excellent debrief. I really appreciated the sections about spending significant time in areas where you are unlikely to see a similar type question on the actual exam; very valuable information.

As for error tracking, I got a really good error tracking logger when signing up for my test preparation class. If I had to input each section manually there is no way i'd use it. The couple I found on this site while good, required a bit too much manual entry for my liking.

I hope your application phase goes well. Excellent progress on your testing.

Hi,

5 months later my initial post in this thread and having not yet taken the gmat (bad padawan!), I would like to comment about the logbook.

I think it's a very important piece of information to have. Indeed as I am now back into the gmat business, I have gone through my old logbook and discovered some patterns in my errors, specially in math.

So I would advise people to have a logbook, but unlike some people say, do not print/copyNpaste every piece of detail you can. Just write down why you failed answering correctly the question.

I quickly noticed that in math, 70% of my errors were due to me making silly mistakes, like a + sign magically becoming a -, or missing a zero and what have you. It takes only a line or two to describe. I also noticed that I had completely forgotten about any probability concept, so I need to massively work on that.

Take away point: wisely use your error log.

Beside that, I totally agree with the MGMAT material, it is very good, provided notes are taken at the same time.
