550 To.....wait for it... 560 [#permalink] New post 14 Apr 2012, 15:42
Scored a 560 Today Q41 V27.
Wrote the gmat back in Aug as well 560 Q39 V27.

The test is fair. Struggled with quant a bit. for example, solving for avg velocity is simple, but one question asked the to find V2 with all the other variables given...Easy question but under time constraints I had to guess....

I though Verbel was ok, until I saw my score. CR seemed a little harder than gprep. It seems that I havn't improved in verbal at all in the past 6 months...wierd.. Im pretty comfortable with SC and CR for the most part...RC was always difficult for me.

I have exhausted the GMATPREPS, MGMAT TESTS 1-6, as you can see below....btw MGMAT, most were not timed.

I think it was a bad idea doing the two GMATprep tests so often! I did the same mistake (not as often as you though) and my actual score was 80 points below my last GMATprep test.

You should look for other tests to do and concentrate less on only doing test, but also on the topics asked! You really need to know all concepts!

Cheers!

CAT Tests
Re: 550 To.....wait for it... 560 [#permalink] New post 15 Apr 2012, 01:48
The last post nailed it.

The practice exams arguably (I'll argue this) isn't supposed to be a reflection of what you would score on the actual test. It is exactly what it sounds like.... a practice exam that allows you to experience similar environmental variables.

I do not want to take away at all though the importance of such, but it's more important that we fully understand the material. Of course, we can argue about that statement from your high practice exams. Overall, it seems that your past method of preparation isn't working for you and perhaps another prep program would suit your needs better. I know it is frustrating but why not give it another crack. To some degree, I truly do believe the GMAT, in addition to measuring our academic ability, focuses on our ability to adapt, persist, and pursue.

I apologize if I made any assumptions in this post but hope that you're encouraged to reflect about what truly happened and move forward. Please update us!!!! You would be a great, inspiring example if you can hit those amazing CAT numbers on the real thing.

Wrote the GMAT again on August 26, 2012 and scored a 670 Q48 V34. After a long struggle (maybe the longest in GMAT history) with the test I will probably will not write again and focus on my applications.

For those who are discourage and want to give up....DO NOT GIVE UP, keep going and as bad as it sounds, actually enjoy doing questions. Here are my 2 cents if anyone cares to know

Quant:
- Do OG 11, 12, 13, Quant Review and buy the question pack for GMAT prep. Understand each question and know exactly why you got each question wrong. Time yourself on each question. If your taking longer than 1.5 min, find out why.

-MGMT tests - These tests help people score a higher quant because the questions are harder. Although some questions are not GMAT like, by doing them will help build a solid foundation so that the actually GMAT question seem much easier.

- Get a tutor! Get a math tutor who has mastered not only GMAT math but has a solid background in mathematics. My tutor opened the flood gates to GMAT math. Hard Questions that take an average of 1.5 mins to do would be cut down to literally 20-30 secs.

-Master the medium hard questions. If you don't master these then don't bother doing the hard questions. If you can't nail these, then you will never see a hard question on the exam.

- Time management! Know when to give up on a question. if you dont know it, effing skip it! If you start stressing cause of timing, you will score POORLY. you have 10 mins to do 5 questions. if your behind 2 mins, skip the next question that you find hard, minimizing your stress near the end.

Anyways hope this helps some ppl out there who are killing themselves on this exam who are the avg joe like me! Ill put up what I did on Verbal another day.....
