Hi,
I am an Indian with Engineering background and two years of work-ex in Big4 IT consulting. Aim to apply to ISB or SP Jain this year else try for US top-10 next year.
I gave my GMAT today and scored just 560(v29,q38). I struggled on some of the quant questions i.e mainly in DS and questions related to number properties and estimation strategies I guess. However my initial questions went well I guess. In verbal, I ran out of time..at 30mins remaining, I still had 21 questions to go...till then I had already got 3 RC's and in the last 21 questions got 2 more. I had no choice but to blindly guess and move on on the 5th RC and some few SC-CR questions.
I had first scheduled my GMAT on 10 June 2013, took a 25 day leave from office prior to that..eventually ended up postponing to 23 July 2013. I resumed work thinking that I am through with all the material viz. Manhattan guides (all except RC),
OG, Review Guide, some Grockit questions and now will only focus on practicing more and more. However, I didn't really give many mocks. Here is my mock list:
All these mocks I gave after sufficient
OG practice and solving Grockit questions.
Manhattan Review free CAT: 560
Gmat prep1: 520
Gmat prep1: 580
Manhattan Review free CAT: 580
Gmat prep1 :610
I was hitting a constant 44 in Quant in my last 2 tests, however, Verbal seemed to be a point of concern then.
So I did my SC again by going through the Manhattan and Aristole SC again.
Although I do realize that my mock scores weren't great and expecting to Beat the GMAT above 700+ today would be a long shot, I some-how believed I could do it as in all the mocks I gave, I realized that in quant I made a lot of silly mistakes, the problem was not that I didn't know how to solve it but I hastily solved it with some wrong assumptions or considering wrong data. In verbal, I realized my mistake that if I had read the choices more thoroughly, I could have easily spotted the differences in the options and thus could make a correct choice as I could easily find out the error type.
Also when I gave the manhattan Mock again, I got 580, but in Verbal I realized that I had 9/12 RC questions wrong and only 6/29 SC-CR questions wrong. So considering this fact, I read my RC's patiently in today's exam.
One more fact is that when I solve
OG questions, I get most of them correct with almost 85-90% correct in whatever I solve. However, the mocks and today's exam show somewhat different picture.
So in short, I am confused now. What should I do? Obviously I need to re-take and any how get a MINIMUM 720+ before/till September, BUT HOW?
Where should I start and where should I end? What all kind of practice I need? What strategy? I am also contemplating if I should join some online prerp..or will Grockit suffice for additional practice.?
GMAT Experts, please help and in case you need some more details let me know. Need to start my studies asap, this time without leave from office
Thanks all !
