You have not mentioned the target score that you need, sorry I am not aware of SSE/scores.
GRE quant is considered easier than GMAT. This forum has a GRE sub-forum too gre-152/

Take a practice test and see how you do in the GRE quant section. If your score there is good enough or close to what you need then just give the GRE. I know a couple of my friends who did this - their target schools too accepted GRE Quant - and they scored pretty well in the Quant with 1 month of studying. Since you are already have your basics/concepts covered, you should be able to prepare for the GRE soon.If your GRE practice score is not near what you need, then better wait for 1 year and attempt the GMAT again . May be you could use some prepclasses this time.

Did you take your prep tests in realistic GMAT-like conditions? If not that difference could explain your score being off. The AWA requires some serious thinking and concentration, then you only get a 10 minute break before starting quant, then another 10 minute break before verbal. If you're used to taking stretch/bathroom breaks whenever you want during practice tests, then it's very possible you were mentally drained and made some dumb mistakes on your GMAT verbal.

I don't know anything about the GRE, but I'm pretty sure you could improve your verbal score significantly by studying the MGMAT SC, CR, and RC books.

What kind of studying were you doing for those 8 hours per day? Is it possible you burned yourself out?

wow,780 on a 800! I don't know about GRe pecentiles but if your school needs 600, you are definitely on the competititve side.....good luck

I really want to say to all the people who struggle with the GMAT to try to do the GRE.

The Gmat is really harder than the GRE at least in Math.

Gr8! This is possible, I always feel GRE is more straight forward, GMAT quant gets extremely confusing..

etienneb: I know it has been a while since you wrote this post, but I am curious; how did it go with the application for SSE? The reason why I ask is that I have heard that a couple of people have been noticed whether or not they obtained a spot for next semester.
