B is my final answer. we have to use an intransitive verb here and I think this choice makes it clear. lies can also act as a noun and can be misconstrued for lie as in deciet.

transitive verbs take an object, a receipient of action, whereas intransitive ones do not.
TO LAY is transitive, it does not make sense standing alone---I lay (lay what? an object is necessary)

TO LIE (meaning to recline) is intransitive. I lie -- sounds OK.
