Hi ,

I have taken GMAT twice and have scored 660 both the times (GMAT-1: Q-47, V:34; GMAT-2: Q-49, V-31)

I have 2.5 yrs of WE in automobile major (sales and now business development).
GPA: 8.4/10 (B.Tech Mechnical)

Please suggest if I should go for a retake? I really want a 700+ score. I need some work in CR and RC.

I gave my second attempt with 2 months prep after my my first take.

Though I have applied in a few schools this year, (Boston Univ, Vanderbilt, Michigan Broad and Arizona State Univ, NUS)
I doubt if I ll get through. Any suggestions on college selection are welcome as well.

In cases like mine, what would be wise to do ? Retake or no retake? :( :?

Hi ExoticaBoson,

My suggestion would be to wait and see how you do with the applications you have already submitted. I suggest this for three reasons.
1. Logistics.
You don't know if you will be able to get the new score to the schools you applied to in time. They may not accept scores after the deadline, or if they do, you may not be able to take the test before they review your application.
2. Probability of improvement is low
I cannot guarantee anything, but unless you study a lot over a reasonable period of time, it is unlikely that your score will change significantly. If you really want to improve your score, take a prep course.
3. You may get in anyway. (Actually, this should be #1!)
Your score of 660 with a 49 in quant is perfectly respectable The score is within the range for
Vanderbilt http://www.owen.vanderbilt.edu/vanderbilt/admissions/mba-admissions/class-profile.cfm
BU http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/rankings/full_time_mba_profiles/bostonu.html
Michigan State Broad http://mba.broad.msu.edu/home/profile/
Arizona State http://wpcarey.asu.edu/mba/full-time/admissions/class-profile.cfm
NUS http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/rankings/full_time_mba_profiles/singapore.html

So relax, at least until you hear how things go on the rest of your application -- which will depend probably more on your work experience, GPA, and quality of your essays.

Best regards,

Depending on your essays and what not you could very well get into all those schools. I have a 660 on my GMAT and I got into Vanderbilt, and got an interview with ASU and got accepted with a great scholarship package to Tippie. I would discredit yourself!

Thanks a lot for the reply Betsy.

I am yet to send my application to ASU and NUS. But I just cant decide if my essays are good enough as not many of my friends are applying along. I was wondering to take some professional help though it seemed costly and none of my friends have tried it and so am skeptical in taking these services. I had taken Princeton review package initially and their essay help service has made me even more skeptical. Any thoughts? Can these services really change my essays and increase my chances of acceptance? I write a bit too simplistically and they may be lacking some maturity.. I don't know.. 5th Feb is the deadline for ASU and am wondering if I should spend that much for an application....
