600 score - need advice for verbal section [#permalink] New post 21 Nov 2005, 12:03
Hi,
I just took the GMAT and am disappointed with my score 600 (Q-47, V-26 !). I am not sure why my verbal is so low :( . I felt the GMAT verbal was easier than that of 800Score and Kaplan.

My scores in

800Score: 640, 680
Kaplan: 590,620

What I understand from my GMAT experience is that I have something fundamentally flawed in my verbal concepts. Now the sad part is that I do not even know where I went wrong in GMAT verbal so as to attack my "weak areas".

Any help/advice on improving my verbal ability and helping me score a 700+ is very much appreciated.

Good Q score. Keep it up.
On Verbal, did you take enough practice tests? Did you review them? Did you work out OG and other excercises for Verbal? These are the keys.
Do OG thoroughly. Go thru the verbal forum (esp. the stickys) and you'll get loads of info there. This forum and the GMAT forum also carries some useful stuff.
PowerPrep and GMATPrep CAT score are more closer to the real one and will indicate your true weaknesses and strengths. With Math skills, reaching 700+ should not be a problem if you work hard on the Verbal.
Good Luck!

Verbal was relatively easier than Kaplan tests.
Of the first 10 questions, first two questions were SC (parallelism) and then next 5 questions RC (civil-rights related) and rest CR. The RC looked relatively easier than the wierdo Kaplan stuff. But finally I must have screwed up somewhere falling for the traps!!
In quant section, there were few trick questions which could miss the wary eye !

On the whole, I felt the verbal test to be simpler than Kaplan.
