Hi all,
first of all I want to thank you guys for this great forum here. There are so many helpful explanations and valuable information!
However, I am quite disappointed at the moment as I scored poor 610 (Q41, V34) today. Though the minimum score for most schools (MiM) I am looking at is 600, I am not pleased with this score and I consider to retake the test.
Preparation:
- Background B.A. in Business Administration, very good GPA, working as a Business Analyst for 2 years
- worked through the
MGMAT books with focus on Quant
- overall roughly about 4 weeks (past 2 weeks fulltime)
- felt quite good on most topics, weaknesses were certain Quant-PS with Variables in the answer choices as well as Sentence Correction
Practise Tests:
- (Economist: 3 weeks ago - 590 - without any preparation in Geometry/Numbers Properties/SC)
- GMATprep: 6 Days before real exam: 650 Q46 V34 incl. AWA/IR
- GMATprep: 2 Days before real exam: 700 Q46 V40 incl. AWA/IR
Real GMAT:
- I felt quite confident, was concentrated and calm
- Essay/IR (7) were no major problems
- Quant: Actually it felt good and the questions seemed to be relatively easy. Nevertheless I was a little bit to slow and so I had to guess the last three questions.
- Verbal: RC/CR were good, but I did not score well in SC (usually I was able to cross-out 2-3 choices but really unsure about the remaining 2 options).
I knew that my time management was not ideal and I also suffered from poor SC-skills, however I was really surprised when I saw the final score. I really have no clue why the result was so different from the practice tests. My only assumption is that I failed in some of the easy Quant-questions in such a way (at the beginning? several in a row?) that I got even more easy questions and I missed the opportunity to get big points in mid/hard-questions.
Is there any explanation for a deviation of 90 points compared to the last practice test? Even if this one was an outlier, I would have expected to score in between 650 and 700. Maybe it was just a streak of bad luck?
Does it make sense for me to retake the test? I took most of my holidays to prepare for this test, so if I retake I could only use weekends/evenings for further preparation.
Many thanks in advance!
