620 GMAT but very good academic/professional experience [#permalink] New post 10 Sep 2005, 16:52
Hi
Today, I gave my GMAT and had a low score of 620 (Verbal 27, Quant 48).
I am an US resident of Indian descent.
I have 3.93 GPA in my masters degree (from American Univ, DC) in Information Systems. In my undergrad, I was a topper from a second tier college (MIT)in India.
I have around 8 years of experience mainly in IT. I am working with a fortune 500 company for last 4 yrs and I am top 100 employees (out of 5000 employees). I am technologist and have considerable leadership experience (technical leadership + some project managment).
I have some voluntary experience of around 1 yr in total (taught computer related subjects in 3 different places for 3 months each approx..)

I would appreciate if someone could provide me some suggestions on the following:
1. I am looking to apply for part time MBA (Information Tech..) in Chicago. Do you see any possibility of getting thru...
2. How much value does any of the top part time MBAs (Kellogs, Stern and Chicago) give to GMAT? Can my GPA overcome my low GMAT score?

What other part time MBAs (good rankings...) can I apply to?

Thanks a lot for your help.

to answer your questions:

1) If you are asking about Chicago's and Kellogg's part-time programs, you would be fighting an uphill battle to gain acceptance with your current GMAT. Have you considered retaking?

2) they also count the GMAT. It is doubtful your GPA and work experinece, although good, can overcome your GMAT at Chicago's and kellogg's PT programs.

I am not familair enough with the other parttime programs in the Chicago area to recommend one or another. You will be more competitive at programs with an average GMAT of below 650. You may want to also consider Indiana's new online program.

Good luck!
