So this is the second time taking this test and got the same total score with a 2 point increase on my Q score and a 3 point decrease on my Verbal!! This experience is really devastating and depressing....

I felt that the Quant this time around was much easier than my first experience (thanks to the GMAT Challenges) but the Verbal was RIDICULOUSLY hard. All throughout the verbal section I was getting questions which had 2 or 3 similar answer choices and the SC was much more complex than OG or GMAT Prep questions.

For those who scored 40+ in verbal: How should I study the verbal question and what are some techniques to do well on the real thing?

which parts of verbal are you weak in?

For critical reasoning.
get the powerscore critical reasoning bible for gmat

for sentence correction
gmat prep ...look at answer choices to see what makes each different
practice 3/2 split
learn idioms
MANHATTAN GMAT SENTENCE CORRECTION BIBLE

for reading comp
1000 reading comp document
only practice the stuff for gmat ...the LSAT is useless
look at the answer choices ....see why you got the answer wrong and examine all the wrong choices

verbal ---tricky b/c
1) tricky answer choices
2) need to practice to see the traps
3) hard reading comp with lots of vocab
remember for reading comp, you're not suppose to understand specific science passages, you just need to understand the primary scope of the passage. don't get bogged down with hard words.

Also, the first 10 verbal questions are crucial. I had the first 10 correct and the rest I just kinda didn't do as well, but still pulled off a 38 on Verbal. A friend of mine got a couple of first 10 questions wrong on Verbal and got the same amount of answer wrong compared to me but only scored a 28 verbal. So, that just shows how important it is not to screw up in the first 10 questions.

This is only stuff I'm using and I scored a 38-42 on GMAT PREP verbal. I will tell u if I do well on the real gmat.

Best of luck on future preparation. 8-)

I am in the same situation. I got 660 in my first exam, and again 660 in the second one with a higher math percentile and a lower verbal percentile. Now, I am building both sections strong. If you emphasize on one section to improve it and assume you will do roughly the same for the other section in the second time, you do not get your desired score. Get OG 10th edition. This is crucial. It has all types of SC problems you need to master in order to do well in the real test. For CR and RC everyone has different ideas.

Good luck..
