I hear that top schools look for a 80% in both -- which I well exceeded in verbal but didn't achieve in quant. Debating whether to retake because of the lower than expected quant score -- any advice?

I think the most important thing is to be able to convince adcoms that you can handle the Quant part of MBA. So, if you have good grades in any math subjects you have taken earlier, that will help. If they are not, it may be a good idea to give the test again(if you have not already given several times), especially because it's possible to increase your quant scores by practicing hard. Unless everything else is stellar,it's better to get your best possible score in GMAT. Others may say your score is good enough. But I think unless you feel that yourself, all the talk doesn't help. I would guess you will write better essays if you have one less to worry.

California,
Could you let us know, how did you find the level of the test, particularly the quant section. Any advice that you might have ??.
thanx

As far as the difficulty - I'd say that the verbal was easier than both the OG and Kaplan and that the quant was harder than OG yet on par with Kaplan. It wasn't that I was overwhelmed by the quant - I was in fact prepared, just freaked out when I had to spend a long time on an early question- through off my timing. In terms of the type of problems on the quant section, I saw a lot of probability problems but relatively easy ones, some tricky data sufficiency but nothing that out of the ordinary. Hope that helps a bit.
