690 GMAT/Not good enough? [#permalink]

Is my 690 GMAT good enough to make it into a decent school?
My breakdown is 40 V, 44 Q
I have a 3.81 QPA from a public university
I took 4 quant courses at a community college, calculus and 3 accounting classes and got an A in all of them
I usually scored a 47 on the quant in GMAT Prep-I totally blanked on a simple perm/comb and got that one wrong and got another easy question wrong
Test anxiety got to me. Would it be worth it to retake it?

what is your undergrad degree in? what is your profile? what are your post mba goals? Thanks

Undergrad was B.A. in Econ, not a BS
I have worked in the insurance industry for the last few years, want to make transition to finance.

well,if you ask an adcom member of any school he will tell you that you do not have to take the GMAT again....you have already taken enough alternative quant courses with an excellent grade and your undergrad degree is in Econ (and yes i fully realize that it is not BS). That is more than enough to convince any adcom of your quant skills and all you have to do is to draft a small note in special essay discussing steps that you have taken to demonstrate your quant skills. But the story is not finished here...
Now starts the other side of the story which no adcom member will ever tell you. are you a minority? are you a white guy? are you an indian IT guy? are you a male or a female? are you from africa or europe? I apologize for all these questions but these are some of the elements that may decide whether or not you need to retake the exam. If you are an Indian IT, you have to retake it. Sorry, you have no other choice but to retake it if you want to go to top 10 schools......minority/female, you are just fine......do not take it whatsoever....a white guy in investment banking, may be you should retake it....from europe/africa, do not take it.....That is why it is always difficult to comment on anyone's gmat score unless you know about his profile in detail.
In essence, if you really have a great story to tell and if you can write great essays, do not take GMAT.

You sound just fine... I don't think there is a magical GMAT number that scores you the deal... its your whole profile and how you tell your story that counts.
