690 which schools to apply [#permalink]
07 Oct 2004, 07:19
Hi Linda,
I am Indian, 26, Chartered Accountant, 2 years of work ex with PwC. I got a 690. I want to apply to top 15 colleges and have selected Wharton, stanford, Cornell, Duke, Darden, Tuck, Western Ivy, Rotman.
Is my choice correct. do I need to modify it. Does it relly matter if I am not able to apply by the 1st deadlines, as my essays arr not yet ready. I intent to send my applications by 15th nov to all colleges.
Regards

Hi,
What are your goals for the MBA?
In general, ceteris paribus, it is better to apply earlier rather than later.

sorry it has taken me a few days to respond. I was out of the office.
Assuming that your undergrad record is competitive, you have a chance at all the above schools, but you would have to have a very compelling story to beat the competition at Stanford and for Wharton, Tuck, and Darden your experience is on the skimpy side. Your chances are better at the other schools on your list.
Regarding timing. Here once again is Linda's rule: Apply in the earliest possible round PROVIDED you don't compromise the quality of your application.
For more thoughts on timing, please see "Timing Your Applications".
Good luck!

Dear Linda,
thanks for your reply. I have been off from GMAT club for a long time.
I eventually applied to 5. Wharton, tuck, Darden, Cornell,Duke.
But applied late. Only in the second deadline.
Got thru Darden .
Shall I join . Or retake gmat, apply next year with 1 more year of work ex.
Regards

The second deadline is not late.
Why wouldn't you want to go to Darden? If you are thinking that maybe you can get into a higher ranked school, I would say grab your sure admit , make the most of the Darden experience, and don't think twice about applying again. Darden is a wonderful general management school. For more on this topic, please see " MBA: Acceptance, Rejection, and Deferral"
Good luck!

thanks Linda,
Thnaks for the advice. I am for sure going to Darden. We all have aspiriations set evry high on ourselves. I always felt that i was Wharton , Havard types, but probably lack the requisite work experience.
Will try to make the most of my Darden degree.
Regards
