Hi,
If one is seeking a length of time, four or so years seems like a "safe" duration although quality tends to be preferred over quantity.
VA (Darden)
"Most incoming Darden students have between 3-5 years post-graduate work experience. What the Admissions Committee looks for, however, are individuals who exhibit professional maturity. In other words, we evaluate work experience not in terms of years but the depth and breadth of an individual's position, his or her contributions to the work environment, and level of responsibility and progression. Darden also seeks diversity in the professional backgrounds of its admitted students just as it does in all other parts of our applicants' profiles."
Carnegie Mellon
"On average, how many years of full-time work experience do most accepted candidates have?
Most of our MBA students fall in a range of 2 to 8 years of post-undergraduate professional experience. For the class entering in 2002, the median years of full-time work experience is 4.5 years. However, the impact a candidate has made on their company, growth in responsibility over time, leadership experience and other factors are used when evaluating experience, not simply the number of years."
