700 (Q50, V35) Phew ... Just made it to the 700 club !!! [#permalink] New post 07 Dec 2006, 13:22
I took the GMAT today at 9 am in the morning and barely made it to the 700 club, but I'm happy. :) Thanx a ton GMATCLUB !!!!

My verbal was quite disappointing :x and I know exactly where I went wrong. It's those dreaded RC passages !! Of course, I was also guilty of not practising passages much.

The SCs were very similar to GMAPPrep and to a large extent the CRs too.. ..except for a couple which I could nail to two choices and then had to guess. I think I missed some RC questions early on, which brought my score down.

The quant section was a mix of number props, 3 coordinate geometry questions and ONLY 1 geometry, quite a few set and probability questions, the usual percent, ratios....

Preparation:

OG 11 (VV Important !!!)
OF Verbal/Quant Guides
MGMAT SC/CR
Kaplan 2002 book/CD
Princeton Review
GMATPrep ( MOST IMPORTANT !!!)
.....and OF COURSE - GMATCLUB !!! 3 cheers !!!

Of the above guides, I found the Kaplan Maths to be helpful in learning to handle trick questions. Princeton Review was good for practising CAT like tests.
I didn't find the MGMAT to be that useful, except for the SC guide perhaps.

The most important of all were the OG, GMATPrep and the club !!!
I cannot stress the importance of OG and GMATPrep enough !!!!

I would like to reiterate what others in the club have said - do GMATPrep as many times a possible, till you exhaust all questions. The verbal doesn't help you much if you do repeats, since the RCs are repeated, but you're bound to get fresh SC questions.

My prep scores were:

V Q Overall
PR CAT1 10/09/2006 30 47 630
PR CAT2 10/12/2006 33 47 650
PR CAT3 10/20/2006 30 44 610
PR CAT4 11/06/2006 39 48 700

MGMAT Exam 1 10/29/2006 35 38 690
MGMAT Exam 2 11/01/2006 41 44 700
MGMAT Exam 3 11/07/2006 37 48 700

Kaplan CAT1 570
Kaplan CAT2 590
Kaplan CAT3 640

GMATPrep I 690
GMATPrep II 590 (disastrous with Verbal 27)

Took a week reviewing various topics in maths and verbal

GMATPrep I (Retake after reinstalling) 740 (RCs and some SCs repeated)
GMATPrep II (Retake after reinstalling) 750 (RCs were repeated)
GMATPrep I (again after resetting) 770

Thanks a lot guys !!!
'Twas gr8 being part of the club with so many dedicated and fun-loving folks who mean 'business'
Baled out yesterday over a pitcher of Shangria in a local Mexican restaurant - hic hic !!

As far as Manhattan GMAT goes, I found the Exams (not the CATs) to be comparable to the actual GMAT. So those 3 exams are good for practice. But question types in Manhattan GMAT are not really as tricky as the real GMAT. But, as far as I remember, Kaplan math is little tricky, even though the CAT in general is tough.

But, in my opinion, nothing comes as close to the real test as GMATPrep. So, unless someone comes up with practice CATs like GMATPrep, GMATPrep will continue to be the best question resource.... my two cents

I find the MGMAT is much more difficult than gmatprep and a little more than kaplan. It is simple, I never had time enough to complete the whole test and I have to tear my hairs to understand some PS or DS! To balance that difficulty, I noticed that they give more points.

Karlfurt, you absolutely right !! But I guess you're talking about the so-called 6 adaptive tests. I was actually talking about the 3 exam practice tests aside from the 6 adaptive CATs. These exam tests I found to be reasonable. But you're right - the 6 adaptive tests were really beyond regular gmat level. I stopped taking those after a couple. They kept on bombarding me with 700-800 level questions. :x
