The questions on the quant section were very similar to those that appear on the practice GMATPrep software. I would suggest try the GMATPrep tests 4-5 times to get a good feel for the difficulty level.
I don't know much about the Kaplan online/classroom courses.

As for the study schedule, I studied quant and verbal daily. Not necessarily each section though. The 1st 2 months I concentrated on completing the 3 books (OG verbal, OG 11th and PR). Later I concentrated on the GMATClub questions that gave me a good mix of all the areas.
