710 GMAT, 3.1 GPA, 5 years of Work Exp - Should I apply?

I have 710(92%) in Gmat with 50M(93%)/37V(80%) split with 5.5AW(77%) - took in Jan 2006.

I graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology in 2005 with a undergraduate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I got a 3.1 GPA which I am guessing is low compared to all other applicants and the MBA schools I am looking at.

I have been working as a Proprietary Trader in Chicago for last 5 years. During the initial stages of my career I took a bunch of courses at Stuart Business School in Chicago to understand the world of finance better. Now for almost 4 years I have been applying my engineering skills along with my understanding of the financial world to make a living.

EC - volunteer in an educational start-up, cricket

Schools I am looking at - Booth, Kelloggs, Ross, Haas, Stern, Anderson & Marshall. If I get into a non-chicago school I will only do a weekend MBA, but if I get into a Chicago school I would do an evening MBA.

My problem is I don't know if my profile is good enough for a Part-time MBA applicant. Any feedback will help.

I think so.. Why do you feel it is not? Is it the GPA?

Yes I feel like my GPA is low and my undergrad school is not a good one. Moreover schools like Haas has an average age of 32.. which makes me feel a little insecure.. what do you guys think?

I think I am going to apply this time as my GMAT expires next year. But honestly what do you guys think about my chances in HAAS/BOOTH/STERN/KELLOGG? These are the only 4 I like.

Assuming you write quality essays, I think the chance of you being accepted to either Booth or Kellogg part-time is 100%.

Based on my research, gettign into part-time MBA programs is comparatively easy when compared to full-time. There are only few applicants in the part-time program. I think you will easily get into part-time programs.

I think your base is good enough with any part-time program. You have high GMAT, and decent GPA. 3.1 is not that bad. Honestly, I don't think MBA schools care that much about undergrad rankings.

Your age of 25 is also appropriate, because I don't think MBA programs want older guys that much. EMBA is a different story, but for Part-timers, 25 is perfectly fine, if not an advantage.

Now that you have your base covered, you have to work on other parts of your application. This is key. At your current work experience, did you get promoted? Do your recommenders love you? Do you have concrete career goals, which you have already put into motion (have examples to show you have been working towards those goals already)? If your answer to the above are Yes, then you should most definitely apply, and I am willing to bet that you will get into any part-time programs.

If the answer is no, I think you should still apply for the experience. It can only help you. Now, if you don't get in, you know what you need to work on. Create a vision of your career, start taking actions, get promoted, or show clear signs of your career progression, and reapply. It could take 1, 2, 3 years, but now you are still younger than 28, and it's ripe age for an MBA.

Essays and Interviews are your biggest opportunities in selection process of Booth, Kelloggs, Ross, Haas, Stern, Anderson & Marshall.
I don`t think with 3.1 GPA you will make to any of them without exceptional essay and extraordinary interview.
