710 GMAT, Indian Comp Sc Engg [#permalink] New post 02 Aug 2005, 03:29
Hi,

Please help me out.

Talking about my profile, i have scored 710 GMAT score, 297 Toefl, BE in Computer Sc from PEC, Chandigarh, India (A reputed college) & among toppers in class (75%). Career acads have been good.
Worked with Infosys (Indian company) for a year, 2 years with Oracle Corporation (India). Got promotion but not much significant managerial roles.
Done lot of community work & extra-curricular at and after college.
Applied last year in mostly 2nd round for all schools. Got interviewed with Tuck, Insead. Placed in waitlist by UCLA & USC. Got final call from Queen's (Don't know why i applied). This year am reapplying.

1. What is a realistic set of schools for me to target.
2. Do i need to improve GMAT score to 750+ kinds?
3. How much role does International Experience & Managerial role, missing in my profile, will matter? If possible, what can i do to counteract that in short term (Not much time left for R1)?

thanks a lot

Sounds like a decent, yet disappointing run last year. Sorry to hear about the dings / waitlists. Given the fact that you received an interview and a number of waitlists, I'm inclined to think that your issue is around execution -- specifically regarding essays and interviews. Have you picked up our book Your MBA Game Plan? It should really help you with strategy development for the application process.

The schools you mentioned are clearly within your reach given your results. It's not a GMAT issue -- it's an application issue.

Thanks a lot for an insight, which cud have been possible lookin out of my purview. I will try to pick up ur book right away.

Meanwhile, I have started relooking at Univ selection. I am not planning to reapply at same univs, since its becomes tough to justify reapplication additions.
Can you help me out with a list of safe schools (and Probables) to apply to.

thanks a lot

UCLA and USC still sound like good targets to me. Also, take a look at University of Texas at Austin and Purdue. Those may be good fits.
