710 GMAT Q 45/V 42 [#permalink] New post 08 Dec 2012, 00:56
So I'm in an odd situation. I'm a science major at an ivy league and I'm applying to HBS 2+2. I took the GMAT cold (no time to prepare) and got this wacky result...not sure how I bombed the quantitative section and aced the verbal, if anything I would've expected the opposite. 2 questions:

1. Is this good enough, combined with a 3.5+ GPA, to be stat-worthy of a school like HBS?

2. Should I consider either re-taking for a 750+ or trying the GRE instead (provided I can get a composite score in the 330 range, according to the new formulas) before the final round of apps?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi Killakam,

Rather than writing your GMAT again, I would recommend you to focus on your application essays & interviews. It will be good, if you retake and score more…But what if you score less??? Will you quit your plans for the course?? So, better concentrate on application essays. Try your chances in b-schools by clicking http://www.general-ed.com/chances-of-bschool

Feel free to post any other issues you might have.

Cheers!!

If you quant score is below the 80th percentile, then you will need to re-take the exam. HBS 2+2 has a lot of successful Ivy applicants apply and one way they use to distinguish between and amongst them in to look at your GMAT scores. Given the level of competition, a "bomb" score could give admissions the a munition they need reject you with a nice note that you should reapply in a few years. I would re-take the exam and make sure the score reflects your true academic abilities and potential. From our perspective, there is no sense applying to a school of this caliber if one of your main parts of your application can be improved greatly with some work.

Good luck.
