710(Q50 V36) to 710 (Q51 V35) [#permalink] New post 02 Jun 2012, 02:36
Now here's a fix:

Which score to use

710 (Q50 V36) - 1st attempt
or
710 (Q51 V35) - 2nd attempt

Now I know I said that I was happy with my last score. But, I thought I d give the exam another shot before the format changes.

Here's the exam experience:
The quant section was easy. After last attempt, I realized that I must leave at least 25 mins for the last 7-8 questions. And yepp, I nailed it ! Follow this advice. Irrespective of your IQ, the last 7-8 questions will seem tough for you and if you can get these right, you can keep your score floating at higher levels.

Verbal was like the last time, almost fainted 15 mins after it started. Not much to explain here.

Also, I d appreciate any advice on which score to report. Some say quant skills matter the most. Some say that there must be a balance between quant and verbal scores. I need help here.

Hey, unfortunately you can't choose which score to report, because the official GMAT report which schools will use, will have both the scores in them. I also dont think that its upto you which one to report in the application, schools ask you to report the highest or the latest, not sure. I would personally go with your 50/36 as the highest score to self report. Do remember that if u apply to insead, they will consider the highest quant and highest verbal score, so they will consider q 51 and v 36

Thanks for the INSEAD Advice str1der.

In the new HBS Application it says:

(1) How many times have you taken the gmat?

(2) Which test date would you like to report?

Followed by just one set of boxes to fill up.

Hence the fix. Which one would you suggest and what would be the reasoning behind that selection?

If I were you , I'd report the first score 710(Q50,V36) . Generally top schools like to say a 80/80 split on both sections , with a score of 36 in verbal your verbal percentile will be more closer to the 80% .

The second one. You need to emphasize your quant skills.

I took GMAT twice and landed up with 690 (Q48,V36) and 690 (Q50,V33). So close yet so far:(

I reported 690 (Q48,V36) to 12 schools where I want to apply prior to taking the second attempt.

Is there a way for them to see or obtain the score of second attempt unless I send them the score?

Let's say I apply in round 1 and they validate the scores, will those schools see 2 scores.

Should I send the second attempt scores again because I want to do MBA in finance, better quant?
