Took the first CAT a few days ago and ended up with a 720.

Took the GMAT about 4 years ago in undergrad without studying at all (had no idea how a CAT worked) and ended up with a 590. I took the GRE and studied quite a bit for it and got a 800Q 540V. Also studied a lot and took the LSAT and ended up with a 167.

Undergrad is Electrical Engineering / Math

Currently pursuing MS in Bioengineering

Goal is either Georgia Tech or Emory evening MBA in Atlanta.

The 720 would be more than enough for what I want, but I have heard/read that some Consulting firms do care about GMAT scores when hiring, so I'm obviously gonna shoot for the highest score I can get.

Question is, with dedicated studying what kind of score can I reasonably expect? I think I can raise my verbal score quite a bit as I typically perform well on reasoning/reading comprehension as evidenced by LSAT score.

Also, would a sore of 750-780 be anything valuable to a consulting firm? Is it possible to get scholarships to school's evening programs?

Hi zreinhar, I know Emory offers scholarships to evening students, but I have no idea how many or what kind of profile would be competitive. According to the program's website:

"All admitted Evening MBA applicants will be considered for a limited number of scholarships with priority given to those who apply in the Fall, Early and Scholarship I & II Rounds. No additional materials or forms are required for scholarship consideration. Scholarship decisions will be based on the overall profile of an applicant and how he or she will impact the Evening MBA program experience. For additional information, please email EveningMBA@bus.emory.edu"

I don't think GA Tech offers scholarships to Evening students.

As far as what kind of score to expect, I think the GMATPrep software provides a pretty good gauge, and GMAT Club has a Score Estimator: http://gmatclub.com/gmat-score-calculator/

Unfortunately my main computer is a Mac so the GMATprep software won't run on it. I have a PC at home that has basically been decommissioned, but I will probably try and get it to work and do those two tests right before my actual test so I can gauge where I am at. Or I might do one half way through studying and save the other for right before.

I have a large number of GMAT books as I have been meaning to get started on studying but other things have gotten in the way.

Gonna start with the OG stuff, then do manhattan's math books and I'll probably finish with one of the CR books. I used PowerPrep for LSAT stuff and that worked really well. I don't think I need a huge review for reasoning but I think one be good nonetheless.

Thanks for the response! I'll def do whatever I can to get some of that money from Emory as they are my number 1.

Edit: Just saw you went to Emory how do you like it there?

I applied R3 this year -- don't know whether or not I got in yet. There are some current students who post on this board that could probably give you some insight into the program. Another good source of info are the student clubs: http://www.goizueta.emory.edu/careerman ... clubs.html

Best of luck!

Just took CAT #2 on 800score(dot)com

Overall 700, but this time I managed to drop my Quant score down to a 42 but bring my verbal up to a 44. If I can get a verbal score like that and a quant score like my first I'm in 750+ territory which is my overall goal. (mainly just to keep the door open to consulting down the line)

I have been going through OG 12 and just finished the first 230 PS quant questions with an overall hit rate of about 88% which is kind of odd, but I had the same kind of thing studying for the LSAT. If I was studying a particular question type I would tend to speed through it on a practice test and not perform as well.

Important note is that I finished this Quant with about 7 minutes left while on my first CAT (720) I finished right at time. Also when I feel mentally exhausted (like I did on my first CAT and my GRE) that tends to correlate with me having performed better.

I will probably take another CAT after I finish the DS Quant section in OG 12 and my next CAT will be one of the GMATPrep CATs.

I definitely feel that a 44V is much more reflective of my capabilities as the GMAT verbal is fairly straightforward compared to the LSAT. I will probably schedule the GMAT for early July in the coming weeks.

A little more info about me:

I'd like to pursue a Ph.D in Bioengineering after I finish my MS, and will probably do that which will hopefully not result in an expired GMAT score if I can bust out a 750+. I will probably apply right before it expires and then request a deferral if it comes down to it.

I am also interested in pursuing a degree that specializes in Bio-tech regulatory such as John's Hopkins Online Master's of Science in Bioscience Regulatory Affairs. If I don't do the Ph.D I will pursue this after my MS in Bioengineering.

My overall goal is to create a Bio-tech start-up one day. (I realize this has more to do with blind luck discovering a marketable profitable technology, but fingers crossed!)

Currently working for small medical device company managing intellectual property and also helping with research and some of the business side of things (licensing, business development, etc.)

Running Tally:
800score(dot)com CAT 1 - 720 (50Q, 38V)
800score(dot)com CAT 2 - 700 (42Q, 44V)

I'm going to use this thread as a journal.
