I think you have a shot at all the schools you listed. Your profile is certainly unique BUT one thing that you have to address VERY CLEARLY in your application is why mba. AdComs will put additional scrutiny on your profile only because you have a doctorate degree. Why do you think you need to go get that MBA? Where's the MBA going to take you? You don't have to answer these questions on this board, but definitely put some thought into it. But overall, I think your profile is unique enough to give it a shot.

Hi Prerna,

I must say that you have a good profile because most of the doctor profiles we have come across are fairly vanilla.

You must use all aspects of your profile like freelancing, leading teams & working under tough conditions which is a big achievement especially for a female doctor ( Please don't take us in a neg sense).

But the most important questions that you will need to answer is how will you be able to make a transition to a corporate or quasi corporate environment which requires knowledge of finance, marketing, sales etc which you have never touched in your life.

You recommendations should also delve upon your potential to learn these and then to make a shift.

Also, try to address why you don't want to go to an Indian B school and then start your initiative from India only.

Since you want to stay in healthcare only, please go through the schools mentioned in this article.

Hi Prerna

As first steps, we would suggest you to start reading about the basics of finance, sales and marketing so that you have a knowledge of the things you might need to address during the application/interview process.

Secondly, we encourage you to think more on the short term and long term goals post your MBA so that you can present your case in a structured and convincing manner. For example, you might be asked to defend your decision for going abroad for an MBA when your goal is to work in under developed countries. Why not pursue an MBA here and then work here. A suggestion we can give here is that an abroad MBA can expose you to the best practices available in the Health care sector and you can later come back and establish the same in the underdeveloped countries. You might want to do a bit of self probing of the goals.

Please feel free to reach out to us in case of any questions. All the Best!!
