720 (Q48; V41) and happy! [#permalink]  22 Jul 2007, 14:35
Hey guys just wanted to post my experience and scores here.
Took my official gmat today scored 720 (95%). I am quite happy with my score (inline with my expectation).
I took 10 practice tests in all and scored an average score of 700 (1 Kaplan non-adaptive; 5 MGMAT CATs, 2 PowerPrep and 2 GMATPrep). I was pretty nervous because my range of scores during practice was pretty wide (650-760). Especially in my last test, I scored only a 670!
Anyways, here's my quick tips:
1. First 8-10 questions? Still very very important.
2. Prepare thoroughly for the AWAs as well (I don't think I did them very well)
3. Math is tougher than you think (even if you are an engineer from India )
4. SCs are the easiest to nail (and probably the easiest to choke on)
5. If you get an RC within the first 4-5 questions, be extra careful.
6. Best preparation material: OG11 (of course), MGMAT CATs, MGMAT SC book, Cracking the GMAT and Kaplan 800.

Good luck to everyone!

Can you please tell me what are MGMAT CATs and how to get them?

Hi trahul4:
What I meant was if your first 4-5 questions are correct, and if your 5th or 6th question starts with an RC, you will more than likely get a tough RC with tough questions. RC was one of my strengths and I overlooked this dimension (i.e. a tough RC at the beginning of the exam). Ultimately (in one of my practice tests) I got all of the 4 RC answers wrong!

Hi goalsnr:
MGMAT CATs are Manhattan GMAT Computer Adaptive Tests. You can easily search on the manhattangmat's site or on this forum and you will find tons of references.
The best (and cheapest) way to get access to these CATs is by buying one of their guides (sentence correction is the best). You can find one online or at Barnes&Noble for 20$-26$.
Each of these guides comes with a unique code which you can use to access their awesome online content (including 6 CATs, 3 non-adaptive tests & practice content).
