Alright people - I am done with it. Got a 720. Happy to be part of the 700 club. Though I was badly hoping I'd get a 750 but then - "enough" isn't ever "really enough"!
I said to myself - I am 35 years old now and can't compete with young under 30 fellows
I just wanted to get 700+ finally and am happy to have achieved that milestone.
As you can figure - I am old timer at the GMAT Club and my tryst with the GMAT goes back a long time. I had joined GMAT Club in 2004 and most of my old study friends - ps dahiya, gmatt73, u2lover --- must have all completed their MBA's and must be sitting pretty as CXO's somewhere. I have been a laggard pretty much all my life...success comes to me rather slowly
I have nothing signficantly different to report in terms of strategy I followed: One thing I'd like to share is that my total study time for this attempt was around a month and half. And I did only six
MGMAT CAT's for practice. I found the math of
MGMAT CAT way too tough. My break up of
MGMAT CAT tests is as follows:
cat 1: 650
cat 2: 640
cat 3: 710
cat 4: 740
cat 5: 700
cat 6: 720
I was hoping that on the actual exam I would score a 49/50 on math and around 45 on verbal. But on the acutal gmat verbal appeared to be way too tough for me while the math section seemed a cakewalk. I breezed through math with no difficulty - in fact to the extent that I had become sceptical whether I was doing ok or not. Because the questions seemed easy. But in retrospect I think having done the Math on
MGMAT had done me good. It gave me a lot of confidence.
Then came the verbal. I had consistently scored a 45 on
MGMAT Verbal and I was kind of confident I'd make the grade this time. But on the actual verbal test - I got way too many of a particular type of CR that I wasnt really comfortable with. Was pretty ok on SC and RC. Got the standard 4 passages and I think I got a few questions on RC incorrect.
It's always good to be a part of the study crowd here...Bunuel is a great guy championing the math section on gmat club. I wish there were somebody like him on the verbal section too. Akmabai used to be an old timer who used to do a great job. But he is no longer around.
Tommy, Sarai and Testluv et al are also doing a great job while promoting their respective organizations and it's good to see momentum building up here. For me personally, GMAT has been an especially enriching experience. I learnt a lot of things during all these years of being associated with this beast of an exam. It always surprises how this test can keep so many people on the edge on end!
Good luck to everybody here and may the force be with you all.. All the best to GMATCLUB as well.
