730 gmat retake? [#permalink] New post 18 Mar 2011, 08:55
hi in the summer I took the gmat and got 730 (96% percentile, 78%V, 98% Q) 4.5 AWA

anyways I did not have the time to study so I felt I did not achieve my best.

I believe that if I study several weeks, I will be able to reach somewhere around 770-780... is it worth the time and risk?

No, I don't believe that you will ever be rejected from any place because of a 730. I think your time will be better spent on your essay-crafting and interview preparation.

Personally, getting a higher score won't help get you in. However, if you are admitted - a higher score increases your chances for a scholarship at lower ranked top tier school. How much does it increase your scholarship chances? I have no idea.

Everything that I have ever heard or read from adcoms in regard to taking the GMAT again insists that if an applicant is certain that he/she can increase his/her GMAT score by 50 points, it is worth retaking.

So as Clint Eastwood said, "Do you feel lucky?"

the thing is that I had my test with only a few days of studying, I have a background in engineering so Q was easy for me. and I strongly believe that if I work on the V for a couple of weeks I could get a 770 or something..

but I started to believe that it is better to spend that time on my essays probably=)

totally agree but it would be cool to be able to say you got a 780 - can't imagine too many people have achieved that. but prob smarter to spend your time elsewhere. at least that is what i would do.
