Tuesday, I took the GMAT for the first time, and scored a 730 (97%ile): 47 in quantitative (81%ile) and 44 in verbal (97%ile). To be honest, I didn't expect my scores to lean toward verbal as much as they did, considering that one of my majors is computer science, but I'm more than happy with my overall score.
As far as preparation, I used
Kaplan's book, a little of the
Kaplan computer stuff, POWERPREP, and the Official Guide. I actually don't think I studied as much as I should have--I only took one full-length practice test! I only found GMAT Club the day before I tested, but I think if I had found it earlier, I would have prepared harder!
If I recall correctly, I got a 640 on one of the full-length
Kaplan tests, and I guess I can understand why everyone says that the
Kaplan tests are scored too low.
Anyway, I was hoping that you all could give me some career advice. I'll be graduating this May from U. of Kentucky with degrees in finance and computer science, and I'd like to get into asset management or perhaps investment banking. I think I have a pretty strong academic record (GPA 3.96, lots of calculus, part-time research work, etc.), and I'd really like to end up working at a financial firm in Charlotte. I've considered pursuing an MS Finance degree (that's why I took the GMAT to begin with), but I'm still unsure. What are my best options fresh out of college?
